Pilot Namiki Vanishing Point Looks Great

The Pilot Namiki Vanishing Point comes in many different colors and finishes, but they all look great! Some particularly striking ones include

  • Blue carbonesque with rhodium trim
  • Matte black
  • Gun metal with rhodium trim (shown in the photo above)

My favorite is the Gun Metal with rhodium trim. But I also have a blue carbonesque that I really like. Other colors include bright red and deep yellow.

18-karat Gold Nib Writes Beautifully

The Pilot Vanishing Point comes with an 18-karat gold nib (or sometimes a Rhodium nib) that writes beautifully. It is much smoother than a steel or other stiff nib. The mechanism in the top of the pen works like a trapdoor that opens only when you click the Vanishing Point open, and closes when you click the pen closed. This action helps keeps the nib moist and free of dust and debris.

Japanese Nibs Run Small, So Size Up

The Pilot Namiki Vanishing Point is a Japanese fountain pen. Like all Japanese fountain pens, the nib on the Vanishing Point runs about one size smaller than European nibs. So, if you normally prefer a fine nib, you should size up and get your vanishing point with a medium nib.

Namiki Vanishing Point's Weight & Balance

The Namiki Vanishing Point has an excellent weight and balance. It just feels nice in your hand. It is comfortable to hold and to write with. Writing with it is like shaving with a nice razor that has just the right weight to it. That correctly distributed mass combined with the slightly flexible nib, makes this pen a joy to write with. And that loud "click" when you open it can't be missed! It DEFINITELY makes an impression in interviews and meetings!

Uses Cartridges or Converter

The Pilot Vanishing Point takes Pilot cartridges, which are proprietary but also fit other Pilot pens, like the Pilot Falcon. Pilot cartridges come in a variety of colors, are relatively inexpensive, and are easy to find.  The cartridges also mean far fewer ink mishaps.  For example, I've flown several times with my vanishing point in my breast pocket or clipped to my shirt and never had the pen explode or spill. Finally, if you would like to experiment with other, well inks, you the Pilot Vanishing Point comes with a converter, that you can fill with your favorite ink.

Pilot Vanishing Point makes a great gift for graduation, passing the Bar, passing medical boards, or passing the CPA exam!
